Planning a trip to visit family and trying to figure out the best route. I want to bring a firearm with me, but going through New York makes things a bit complicated. Taking the long way around adds a ton of drive time, and I'm not sure it's worth it. I've heard mixed things about how to handle this—some say it's better to just avoid NY altogether, while others have managed to navigate the laws there without too much hassle. Curious if anyone's faced this before and what you ended up doing. I'm open to any suggestions or tips that could make this a smoother trip.

I hear ya, just adding so much time to go around, but beats the alternative if something were to happen.

Obviously you are driving? Are you Carry permitted? If so, check this link
https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/resources/ccw_reciprocity_map/

I assume you want protection for the trip? otherwise ship it to an FFL in the destination state, or leave it home in the safe.
If not, plan your trip VERY carefully. plenty of resources available...USCCA, NRA, etc...

I've travelled to Utah many times armed as I have both CA an AZ permits, which affords me safe travel through Nevada.

NY like CA does not allow any reciprocal carry. NY was so strict you had to have a CCW to even own a handgun. We have that and a NYC law to thank for the Bruen decision

The HR218 would have been ok. My NY CO son's is good in CA from what he tells me

I used to have A NYCCW and I could not return to NY and CC even with my Lifetime Hunting License

I have the same question but reverse! We're going to an event in Pasadena and curious what the rule is on carrying a pistol to California? Not necessarily everywhere we're going but having it in the car and room. I've had a ccw for 20 years and just curious what the law says Gavin's Nazi law lol. Regardless what the law is there I'll be packing at least driving there and back. I'm not going to a city LA that basically has third world laws unarmed. Period.

Even if it's out of Oklahoma? I just paid the 200 dollar extortion fee to renew it for 10 years I believe it is. Oklahoma handgun license For semi auto /derringers /revolvers Thanks for your help I appreciate it!

Nope
CA has not set up a plan yet after they lost in court for reciprocal carry. To do proposals
would probably cost more than 200.
Just say you are an illegal, you will be forgiven.

Post was if it was one that CA recognizes. Pretty nebulous at the moment

Common citizen ones are not recognized. They have not implemented their court loss yet
That was a retired LEO posting. LEO ones are My CO son from another state can.
Thats what CA recognizes at the moment.

Well I really hope I don't need it. That's all 😉 I really liked the last time we went out west but I'd be lying if I said I'm expecting the same. Last time out there was 2004 Santa Monica it was great.
