Yep, I was in the Bicentennial class of 1976, graduated from Monroe High School, now it's changed from Sepulveda, CA to North Hills, CA.
I had a guy in my class, his name is Randy Ryan. To say that this guy went over and beyond the call of duty is an understatement.
First the guy serves his community as a Law Enforcement Officer for 41 years, yes, I didn't mistype that, 41 years.
Now I mentioned to him that I got really patriotic when 9/11 happened. The last and only reunion I went to was the 25th, and as one of my friends pointed out, that was the Saturday before 9/11, I was in the dentist.
Not to ignore Randy, AFTER his 41 years of service, he found out you could enlist as a civilian. Randy is in great shape as many LEOs are, he's trained, and in general what the military is looking for. So they took him. Randy was only in Afghanistan for 4 months, when an IDE struck the vehicle he was in...but it was some big heavy 30 ton armored military vehicle.
Fortunately, we still have Randy around, he's a great person.
What a fascinating guy, even takes an IDE for our country, and still walks to tell about it.
