I’m curious to know what shooting ranges everyone prefers. What’s your favorite place to shoot and what makes it stand out for you?

For us folk at the western end of the LA Metroplex, My fav is California Tactical Academy, 1500 Acres with targets out 1k yards.
I have a X3 membership which permits me to have my own private bay almost any day of the week, although weekend are difficult (I'm almost never there on a weekend except for a training or competition). Going on my 4th yr of membership.

We here in Napa have no place less then an hours drive to shoot. There is one local club with a waiting list years long.

WEGC (West End Gun Club) had a 5 year wait for a full membership. I got in after about 3 1/2 years of waiting, and never looked back.

I have my range on my 20a too. I end up with 2 problems.
1. A 6,8k acre park next to me Hikers will call 911 if I am shooting
2. Neighbors a mile up the road. They are all next to each other with their 20a. They expect me to text them and warn them. Only 1 can really hear me shoot. And then she claims I am shooting at her house when I am shooting the other way.. My rangefinder has her house over 3/4 miles away. Wish I had something to hit that distance.

So to keep peace, I gotta call the County to let them know I am shooting.
Told my neighbors, I ain’t texting if I am dispatching something attacking my livestock

Any recommended ranges that don't require membership? Can non-members walk in and shoot at West End?
No, the gate is normally locked. Since I'm a member, we could always go up together some time?

SLOSA between San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay....but fish and game has had it padlocked since 1/1/15....in direct violation of the terms of the deed granting CA ownership from the US Dept of Interior. I sure wish President Trump would revoke CA ownership of that property....

Next favorite is the Rod & Gun Club on Vandenberg. I like getting there shortly after sunrise and having the place to myself.....

Up in the SF Bay area, I live on the Peninsula, so for me, it's the outdoor Sunnyvale Rod and Gun Club. The Rangemasters are very nice and helpful, and the targets, sand bags, scopes, etc., are free to use, and there's no time limit. Now if I could just find a place to take my black powder guns that don't take forever to get to.

Raahauge is a great range. Lots of steel shooting competitions are held there. I just hate spelling the name of that range! 😒

Not too close, but Konocti Rod & Gun Club only charges $50/year which provides RFID access to the Sheriff's range over in Highland Springs. It's about an hour from you in Napa though.
My back yard.
I'm currently looking at 100 acres about 5 miles from the Sheriff's range in Highland Springs. I want to do that also, but I plan to live in Kelseyville, and want to use that property only for a shop.

I just sold my house in West San Jose, it was about 10 minutes from the reservoir. That is a nice range, but it costs almost as much to go for a single day, as it does for an entire year at KRGC. I was there about a year ago, but didn't shoot, that's an awesome skeet setup!!!! One of the gals from the Golden State 2nd Amendment Council gave me a guest pass. That's a beautiful range.

I used to RSO at the 10th Street Pistol range, but the Parks and Recreation closed it down...much like they were trying to do with Coyote Sporting Clays and Sunnyvale both.

I should add a link to KRGC, it is my favorite range that I have every been to in California. Too bad it's not centrally located so more people could use it, but that's good for me! ;) The President is a real nice guy also. It is a big club, but the range is often empty.(y)

In Costra Costa county, my choices are:

1. United Sportsman: outdoor range for pistol, rifle and shotgun. Friendly staff. My only gripe is that you can't fire the shotgun on the rifle side, you can only shoot slugs on the pistol side. They do have a separate skeet range. Open on both days on the weekend which really suits me. Pistol goes to 17 yards, rifle side to a 100.

2. Guns and Fishing: Indoor range, can get crowded on the weekend with an hour (or longer) wait. Closed on Sundays 😭. 2-3 lanes will always be down. Limited to 25 yards.

3. Livermore: An outdoor facility in (adjacent) Alameda county. Decent. Has a weird rule to leave all your equipment in your vehicle until you are fully signed in and assigned a lane.

4. San Leandro Rod and Gun: A dump. Tried it .. once.
