Thread protectors

Do barrel thread protectors actually serve a purpose, or are they just unnecessary weight?

My 556 does not have a thread Protector. Day after I picked it up I went back, where is it? It was on the one you showed me. Some BS excuse why it wasn’t there.
My wife’s PCC has a very nice one on it. It might weigh .25 ounce but it protects the threads for hearing protection in the future

I used to think they were useless until I banged up the threads on my barrel on a bench. Suddenly, that little cap didn’t look so silly.

Thread protectors, well, uh, um, protect threads. They also work as a non flash reducing muzzle device for featureless builds.

Thread protectors help keep your threads clean and stop damage. It adds a couple ounces but it’s worth it to avoid messing up your muzzle device.
