So, I was at a local gun store recently and they had .22LR on sale for $5.00 a box. So I thought what the heck I'd love to go do a little plinking and thought I'd pick up a box. Well I couldn't believe what happened next. See below;
Box of .22 $5.00
Sales tax on $5 .43 8.75%
Firearm tax 11% .55 11.00%
New state increase gun safety fee 5.00
Grand total for 1 $5.00 box of .22 $10.98
$5.98 in fees add up to more then the cost of the box of .22
And before you can do that you need to do or have this;
To buy ammunition in California in 2025, you will need a valid California driver's license or California identification card, or a military ID. If your ID says "Federal limits apply", you will also need to provide a passport or passport card. Additionally, you will need to pass a background check, which requires a valid California ID or driver's license. Starting July 1, 2025, the background check fee will increase to $5 per transaction.
This is really getting out or control.
