Where would you go?

With $70 in your pocket and a full tank of gas, where would you choose to go this weekend?
I probably wouldn't be going to far with only $70 in my pocket. I have about 400 mile range in my truck with a full tank, so probably wouldn't be going too far. If I had 10x the cash, I might pick Idaho, to visit a friend.

Probably head somewhere down by the beach for some seafood. I'm not very well traveled, not even in my local surroundings, so I really have no idea what's worth the drive. I suspect I'd end getting frustrated not knowing where to get good seafood and end up at some whole-in-the-wall Mexican food joint. 🤣

If I was in your neck of the woods with $70 in my pocket, I'd head over to Pinnacle Peat's in San Dimas...if I felt feisty, I'd wear a tie, just to get it cut off...:)

Ok back to it 70 buck full tank i probably go to Napa and have a sandwich at oakville makes the best or a crab sandwich at spuds by the coast
I don't think I'm heading to Eureka any time soon, but I could make it to Oakville. I love the Oakville Grade...I have taken my 911 on there a number of times...I used to frequent a Porsche forum, which is how I found out about the Oakville grade. There was a guy that had a newer 996, and he took a Porsche writer with him over the Oakville grade. When they go to the bottom, she asked him if he could pull over to the side of the road. She got out and tossed her cookies, and then they headed down into Glen Ellen. LOL

Where is the sandwich place?

You talking about spuds on the coast near bodega bay
Must be Spud Point Crab Compay? Prices don't look too bad for seafood.

I used to go to Nick's Cove (Tomales Bay) occasionally with a friend that passed. He loved the place. There's a rain forest by Point Reyes we used to hunt for mushrooms, until one day he showed me an amenita muscaria, those are red caps with white dots...and will make you hallucinate. That was the last time I went mushroom hunting with him and would never eat, even an oyster mushroom, from the wild again. Maybe I'm just paranoid... 🤷‍♂️

We use to go to Nicks cove until the flys was to much
I've never had that problem there. I always wanted to take my wife there, but never did...I always got amazing fish in Japan though...it's not cheap over there either.

I haven't been to that area in at least 10 years, what's up with the flys? Are they caused by the abundance of water by the Bay?

We have a rice fly / rice gnat, at Clear Lake. They can be annoying, but I keep all my lights off outside and the drapes closed by the sliding door (I live in a basement at the moment).

There was another place, past Nick's, that had hibachi bbqs that you could buy oysters from and grill them right there.

I seem to remember the rain forest was on the other side of Tomales Bay, far end by the ocean.

Have you ever been to Marin Joe's? (Paradise & 101 in Marin) They sold to a new owner back in ~July, and last I heard about a week ago was that the new owner will be opening on October 1st. That's over a year to remodel, evidently he has to bring the building up to code when he remodels. I was just looking at Birks Steakhouse in Santa Clara, maybe you've been there. $94 for a bone-in Ribeye. Holy flock, you can't even get a ribeye with $70 in your pocket!

EDIT: I just remembered, Tadich Grill on Market in the city, and House of Prime Rib is an XLNT place on Van Ness in the city. Tadich Grill is the oldest restaurant in SF, similar to Musso & Frank Grill in Hollywood. My wife's favorite dish at Tadich is Cioppino.

I heard of thst place for steak its old time haps in Pleasanton for us . Yes it was really bad and annoying the flys they need to get a handle on that it wax happening inside and outside
That's not good, with the flys. Nick's is not cheap, and that would be horrible to pay that kind of money and have to deal with flies. Have never tried Haps, looking at the website now...putting it on my bucket list...I have a Morgan Hill run coming up, and Pleasanton is on the way...home. Haps has mac-n-cheese...gotta taste that...

We hit Gilroy once a month wife makes me take her to the outlets out there there use to be a famous Dave’s out there man they had the best burnt ends I ever had msn I miss that

Haps is one of the higher end places in Pleasanton. Sign is iconic I know 2 of us didn’t get out of there for $70. Many other options just as good there.
When my wife did her interview trip they put us up at The Rose. Cool place. At one time owned by John Madden. The vibe of Pleasanton seemed great compared toLA. I compared it to Mayfield in Leave It to Beaver. Polite kids on the streets, small town feel.

I know that exact place and have eaten burnt ends there several times. At 10th Street, where my daughter finally passed her driver's license for the 4th time... I told her I would keep taking her to places until she could pass. We went to Santa Clara, South San Jose, Gilroy twice. My wife was pretty proud of me to have the patience to get her to pass. She was 18 when she got her license. She's 30 now, and hasn't had any serious accidents.🙏

I worked with an XLNT Product Manager, her and her husband had a house in Pleasanton, it is a pretty nice place. I haven't spent much time there. There are a lot of cool places around the Valley, Niles is another cool place, not far from Pleasanton. That town is pretty cool, like you mention.

Home prices going way up in Niles.

Here's a funny Original Joe's story. I worked on one of the most iconic devices in the Valley, it actually morphed into the Apple iPhone. It did that by way of the iPod. I was one of the lead developers on the Kerbango Internet Radio, I wrote all the communications in/out of the radio, as well as flash updates over the wire...we had a wireless version of the Radio, that's how it morphed indirectly to the iPod. It was mostly Apple people working on the project, we only had 23 of us before 3Com acquired us. I thought that was my meal ticket, but it was not meant to be. This is one of my radios, I used to use Virgin Radio for testing and listening to music in the office.

I have one of these radios with the RCA splash screen with the dog. We had done a deal with RCA for $10M for the first order, but 3Com felt there was too much liability, after Napster went down...bad timing...bad timing...it was my 3Com stock that helped me buy my property to begin with.

Anybody know what Kerbango is?

Lots of nice places in the area like Niles and Pleasanton A lot of History too.
My buddy’s late wife amassed a lot of it and had it on the walls of their former establishment in Sunol. Bosco’s is currently closed but I talked to her a lot and buddy fills in. What hamlet elects the a dog as mayor and has a statue of him outside the post office.

Bosco's is where the dog was! Closed??? What a shame. I rode that train a couple times with my kids and their friends.

RE: Original Joes...I didn't know they were owned by different people. There a few others around the Bay area, Westlake Joe's over by Daly City, and there's one in San Jose...My uncle took me to Marin Joe's originally, and I'm not a very big veggie eater, but they had this Swiss Chard they would sprinkle vinegar over and Parmesan cheese, it was so good...so when I was working on the radio, we went to Original Joe's, and I asked the waiter for Swiss Chard...he got really upset at me and said they didn't have it, that was something Marin Joe's had on their menu only. I tipped the @$$#O!E one penny. Now I know, all Original Joe's are not the same, and maybe why Marin Joe's was called what it is/was. The Original Joe's that used to be on Taylor, in SF, a short walk from Moscone Center, was good, over by the edge of the Tenderloin. It burned down and they never rebuilt.

If we are getting old school remember tadich grill maybe I am spelling it wrong great nostalgia place
Musso & Frank Grill is similar, those old wood sectionals. Some people would always get offended that Tadich only had male servers, dressed in tuxes, but I thought that was classic. Lots of great food around SF Bay.😋

Now that’s a breakfast for a king looks great!!! I think the last time I had steak for breakfast we were up in Reno at the casino ha ha . You own it to yourself to live a little Harry
Yeah, it was good. Just got home...long day...actually went down to assess the log shell and/or if the wood has rotted too much. I need to talk to the log craftsman that taught me how to build, I was planning to have him build me a new box, but think he might be able to fix it in Morgan Hill. I'll see what he says. If I have him build me a new box, I have the main beam and cross beam for the 2nd floor, plus the timber for the ridge beam, and both porches.
