Tried shoulder holster carry for a month...here's my honest take

I always thought shoulder rigs looked cool and I tried one seriously for a full month. It was comfortable for extended sitting, terrible for anything requiring movement and the muzzle-sweeping issue is real and I went back to hip carry. It looks good in detective movies and that's about where the endorsement ends.

I hear 'ya loud and clear!

When I hunt I hip carry on my backpack belt. I have been pondering carrying a shoulder holster, as it seems if a bear, as an example, attacks me, I would have a better chance drawing with a shoulder holster. I keep reading stories about people who have been in the woods most all their lives, and getting attacked, and worse, mauled by a bear.

Not sure that will be critical this year as I'll be hunting with friends most of the time...I do want to hunt by myself though, it's an entirely different vibe. I feel more comfortable hunting with friends as I always figure the more eyeballs watching for bears the better.

Hip carry for the win, every time!

Hunting solo changes everything, hip carry works but a shoulder holster could be your “better safe than mauled” option..

I tried one briefly and felt the same way. Comfortable when sitting but awkward once you start moving around. It looks great on paper, but it just didn’t work for me over time.

I had a CC in another state. I worked in a bad neighborhood and was carrying cash.
Shoulder holster worked for winter time under a jacket. But summer time, it was appendix carry with my shirt untucked. That system worked for the times I felt the need to draw. (Which was 3 in 3 years)

Shoulder or hip for hunting, depending on if I needed the insulated Carhartt bibs on or not. The shoulder holster I have is convertible. Although I did buy another holster for hip that carries a spare mag.
