The real reason I hunt is something I have a hard time explaining to non-hunters

It’s not about the kill. It’s the 4am alarm, the cold walk in the dark, how the woods wake up around you, the decisions and wrong turns. The animal at the end is punctuation on a much longer story. Non-hunters hear “I went hunting” and picture one moment, but it’s a whole experience!

I don’t know why I had to zoom in to see your post. I think it is your text color on the post with my dark screen option.

I agree.

It’s the experience, listen to the woods wake up, listen to the GDM squirrels, chickadees landing on your barrel, a pregnant doe come up and sniff at your barrel during turkey season, only to finally hear what you are hunting.

I could go on like this about deer hunting in sub zero temps. Most of this forum wouldn’t understand Sub Zero Temps analogy though.

But you are correct, it’s the experience.

But I have this at home. I'm cherishing it, as I'm afraid of losing it.

It can be the same if it’s on your property or state land. Most of those favorable recalls were on state land .
Yes I like my 20A. But it’s been a couple years since I have walked through the back 10. I literally have to crawl to get to my highest corner

I am not sure of all the details, but since I'm in an unincorporated subdivision, it's legal to shoot the pellet gun. I can't discharge firearms. My contractor things I could get away with firing the 22LR, but there are more areas to hunt, I think I'll use my property for turkeys only.

I have a lot of strange deed restrictions on my lot in an unincorporated area.
Can’t have an auto repair business
Can’t subdivide the lot.
Can’t have a house larger than 1800sqft. That one went out the window in the 90’s when the owners of my place converted a garage into an in-law. Many bigger places have been built since then.

County law says I can’t discharge a firearm across a highway. I see several signs to that effect on my way home. State law says I can discharge a weapon on my fenced property. And I don’t have to post it, because it is fenced.

I have read a book written by the guy that subdivided his ranch that mine is now part of. He would have never written no shooting into the deed. I have seen pics of the deer in the 40’s and 50’s on his homestead across the street
He moved out in the 70’s because he didn’t like the neighbors he sold to. Met his kids too. He lived to 103 and died a couple years ago.

That's a strange one, but my parents had a clause that they couldn't work on autos on the street.

Interesting thing about my parcel, it's 2.09 acres, and there's not a lot of lots of that size, most have been divided. In my subdivision, you need 2 acres to be able to subdivide.

I don't have a size limit, but have a minimum 1600 sq.ft., and I can't build anything that doesn't have a permanent foundation. The subdivision is to keep mobile homes out of our area.

My landlord's house has this done, and I live in the basement. I don't like it to be honest, and can't wait to get out of here. I'm waiting for the building department to get back to me to let me know what I need to do in order to get my permits active again.

That's a clause in CA, AFAIK. Same on BLM land, you can't fire across the road. To prevent people from hitting a vehicle.

Exactly! It’s the whole rhythm of the hunt, the quiet, the decisions, the mornings that makes it special, not just the shot.
