Talking about shooting advices

I was at the range the other day, talking with a new shooter. This guy was enthusiastic and driven, but he was also overwhelmed with “advice” from every uncle and neighbor. It reminded me of the useful bits I got when I was starting out… and some of the junk I wish I could un-hear.

So I'm curious....

What’s the best and the worst shooting advice you’ve ever gotten? And if you could offer some wisdom to a new shooter, what would you share? Let’s get some insights from the experts!

Well, we have a huge mountain to climb on so many issues here, I am not sure I could narrow it down to any one specific law. We have been infringed by the CA Attorney General for years. The current admins, as you know, will do anything to prevent us from using firearms. No matter if we defend ourselves, train to be better shooters at the range as you suggest, or using firearms like SBRs and SBSs for defense/protection...

My heart sank to day when I saw that the DOJ was firing back on SBRs and Suppressors, as Suppressors is the one area I want at minimum. Will be ever be able to use one in CA? I can't answer that, but the home team took a big hit from the DOJ yesterday.

Wow, talk about spinning off topic. And on the first reply to boot. Don't get me wrong KW, I love reading your posts...but Damn!

Fortunately, I've never got any bad advice. I think my first advice would be SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY! Do they know it and why they should have it burned in their brains Next would be to tell them that EVERYTHING they have EVER seen in Movies & TV is BS, and mostly wrong. Then the next thing would be to tell them, what works for some may not work for them. And finally, start with the basics. Trigger control, proper grip, etc... Learn your firearm (intimately). Know how it works, why it works, how to field strip and assemble. And finally SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY!. Oh I said that already. and one more thing. SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY!
