The beginning of the end? Still on Sig's website, just no longer listed under CA Compliant.

Bought mine in 2012 (9mm) and has always been my HD gun. I've shot it quite a bit over the years and accumulated a bunch of spare parts (parts kit, barrel, mags etc.).

Seems like a bunch of French Police contract guns are appearing in the US market. Some issued, some unissued. Would have liked to get one of these while on Roster. Who knows what will happen now that they are only available via PPT (so one has to be fairly local, no shipping). To me, there never seemed to be a strong market for it but most folks that have them like them, enjoy shooting them and keep them.

I asked ChatGPT to write a poem. Not historically complete but close enough.

In polymer and steel, the SP2022 stands
A story forged for twenty years of front-line hands,
Born from a French call for duty in early design,
To serve in the streets where law and life entwine.

It walked the corridors of French police fleets,
In Gendarmerie and National Police beats,
A trusted sidearm in echoing alleys and plazas,
Carried with calm beneath berets and blue blazers.

Yet here in the Golden State its chapter wanes,
The roster that once bore its name now strains;
California’s list has marked the SP2022 expired —
Doors closed, no longer sold through dealers as required.

Still in verse it lives, that compact, rugged frame,
A tale of craft and contract, of service and of name,
From Paris boulevards to distant, rolling coast,
Its legacy endures where its worth mattered most.

Seeing the SP2022 slip off the roster definitely made some folks do a double-take, but I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Guns get dropped from the CA list all the time for reasons that have nothing to do with their quality. Sometimes it’s just SIG deciding not to renew the paperwork for an older model in one state. You’re in a good spot with yours though. The 2022 has always been one of those “quietly reliable” pistols. It’s not flashy or overhyped, but the owners tend to hang onto them because they just work. And with the spare parts and mags you’ve already stocked up, you’re set for a long haul. Those French contract guns popping up lately have been interesting to see. Some look like they’ve seen some action on patrol, while others seem like they’ve never left the armory. It would’ve been great to grab one while they were still roster-legal, but that’s just CA for you. At least the PPT option keeps a little window open even if it means searching for one within driving distance.

And I have to say, that poem was a lovely addition. The SP2022 doesn’t usually get the “epic saga” treatment, but it’s definitely earned its stripes. With a solid service history, great performance, and a loyal fanbase, your 2022 isn’t going anywhere. It’s still just as capable as the day you brought it home.
