Elk Warning Lights

Since I pass through heavily elk traffic areas, I noticed on my last trip back- the lights were flashing as a warning above the sign. Not an elk in sight through an area I call Elk Campground near Orick.

I started to think about it, how are those lights triggered? I have seen collars on some elk.

Today on my way up, I go through Elk Campground, hundred elk in the campground, no lights flashing.

Anyone have an idea what sets those flashing lights off? Ok, I got too much time on my hands when driving.

Well, that's fascinating. I'd also like to know how they know. Do all of the Elk have collars on them?

I submitted for 1 Elk Drawing this year, at Lake Pilsbury. I don't think I'll get it. My hunting partner says they're like Hen's Teeth. It is a drawing though, so if I get it, I get it. If I don't, I don't.

He said it's almost impossible to get drawn. It is a drawing though, maybe they'll pick me.

That totally opened up my head to how that flows up from San Luis Reservoir to Livermore, for some reason I have always envisioned it going over to 156 and up 101...that's a big area going up the east side of the bay...or at least east of Fremont. However, if you look up at Orick, it's solid green on the google map. That draw going up from the Reservoir looks greener than the central valley, one of the places in CA I detest...it's like the desert. Orick looks like a great area in CA. Very green, so is most likely very cool temps, close to Gold's Beach to yank some salmon each year...hunting is probably XLNT along the Smith River...you win on picking Orick...

I still have a glimmer of hope, though, the state of Jefferson...LOL Lake County is the southern most county to be included in Jefferson, but I don't think it's going anywhere. OTOH, stranger things have happened...
