I’m going with the Swiss Army knife. It’s the utility of the knife that makes it desirable for me.

I like a single-blade knife. A friend of mine once told me, "You don't need a knife much bigger three inches." Only took me forty years to figure out he was right.

Buck Knives. Traditional. Well-made. I especially like this Buck 501.

Spyderco Knives. Innovative. Always investigating new knife steels. The Delica is a solid choice.

Life is short. Buy what makes you happy. :)

I have a modern-ish USA made Buck that is really nice but a bit bulky, an old Spyderco Pacific Salt I use outdoors, and my typical daily is a light and svelte ZT that my brother gave me. I have no idea the model name but its a nice knife.

I carried the Spyderco rescue knife for many years. It always worked for me. It was originally called the Mariner for use on boats, but was changed to the Rescue knife because so many EMT and LEO personnel carried them.

I carry several different folders and don't think there's any knife that's good for everything...but I want a knife I can skin with if I need to. Sometimes I may not have my backpack with my fixed blade, and I often use my folder as my EDC. In this pic is the benchmade bugout I carry. I carry the carbon model, it's really thin and light, and clips in my pocket for easy access. The Alan Kritzman knife next to it would be a great skinning knife, because it's chunky with a thicker blade....both are pretty similar in length, around 3.75"

The other knife I carry in my glovebox, is a small Swiss Army knife, I used to like to carry that when I was programming in case I needed to work on computers.

I also carry a gerber multitool, and those come in pretty handy, and mine has a serrated knife to cut through bones if needed. This is handy to dress pig, that way you can cut the ribs out, and bone the rest. You will end up with less than 75-100 lbs of de-boned meat on most pigs.

I use various knives to open boxes, scattered all over, but use my EDC for that a lot, because I have it on me when I wear jeans, the majority of time.

Also, Buck knives are reasonably priced and very good, IMO. The classic 110 Folding Hunter, I have one from when I was a teen. has a belt sheath.

Alan,

I see that Buck makes a slim 110 with a deep pocket clip...very different than the wood scales, but same style, if you like a clip point. (linky pic)

Buck also offers steel upgrades if you want, the 113 has MagnaCut or S35VN for a modest upgrade.
