Casual Range Wear: What to Avoid

I've been hitting the range a few times lately and I've started to notice what people wear. I'm not talking about full tactical get-ups or anything crazy. Just everyday clothes for shooting.

One thing that caught my eye is how camo seems to be everywhere. It's cool and all, but it feels kinda out of place for just a regular range session. Like, if you're doing some basic drills or just busting off a few rounds, camo feels a bit too much, right?

I've been sticking with jeans and a simple t-shirt. I try to wear some sturdy boots too. Comfort matters, and let's be real, sandals are definitely not the way to go. Don't want to risk dropping something heavy on my toes.

I'm just curious if anyone else feels this way or if I'm just overthinking it. What's your go-to outfit for the range? Any big fashion no-nos I should know about?

To the range, I wear long pants, long sleeve shirts, socks, and shoes (sneakers). I figure there's going to be blow-back on my face and clothes, and there's going to be sun exposure. Sometimes, the wind will kick up sand and dust. When I get home, I want to throw my clothes in the wash, throw myself in the shower and then get serious about a beverage. Or three.

Yep, long pants, long sleeve T-shirt, closed toe shoes, ball cap. Neutral colors. Nothing flashy. No "political" messages anywhere. So basically stuff I'm ok wearing to Trader Joes, Sprouts, even Amazon Fresh (all nearby).

Also watch out for flying hot brass.

I see people in shorts sandals not my style at all tshirt boots and corduroy or jeans always and a hat for the hot brass

Being former military you will not believe all the BDUs (camouflage clothing) I have. So I wear camouflage for heavy duty chores. I wear camouflage pants to the range and if they get damaged I can toss them out or donate them to a shelter.

I range outdoor so long sleeves is difficult with hot days, but definitely long pants and sturdy shoes or boots. Also, no tacticool, unless there is a bikini clad babe to impress... lol(kidding). Always undress in the garage and straight into the laundry with the rangewear. Also take a camp shower to clean-up a little during the range day.

I was in Dallas on business with a colleague. Had a morning meeting cancel so we had a few hours to kill before our flight home to CA. Thought about going to a gun range. Then figured we'd never make it though TSA with all the residue. Opted for some barbeque instead.

I have been pulled aside for extra screening. Only carried a boomstick that day that had went boom 4 days prior.

Probably a good choice for you.

We shot a fireworks show on Kauai a few years back, then was screened when flying home. I was carrying the electronic controller, and set off all the alarms. Fortunately, all the TSA agents watched the fireworks show, we had a good laugh, and was allowed to continue.

I am one of my club's instructors for our Intro to Competition class. I recently had a student who showed up in a designer polo, slack shorts, and birkenstock sandals. Dude looked ready for a fierce day of wine tasting.

I asked him why he would wear sandals to a competition class, and his response was that he didn't realize that we would be out moving on the range...

TSA is never a problem on any of the Hawaiian Islands airports. Now stateside TSA is a different story.

I did find out that TSA stole my Maui Jim sunglasses while passing thru the checkpoint. I've been told the locals in Kauai are known for those antics.
