I think Hunting and Fishing are two of the California hidden gems. Because the state is so against Hunting and Fishing, it gives the outer counties a chance to thrive.

I don't see those people out where I live in Lake County. I hope I can live out the rest of my life here in Lake. I need a slower pace, I need more outdoors, more animals around me, nature in general.

Sounds corny, but feels good, in a way. I guess I need more nature in my diet! ;)

I get that feeling, sometimes you just want space and quiet, away from all the noise. That’s what I call breathing room.

Breathing room would be nice in the current climate. As it is, the politics is thick on the hill...Schumer is going off the rails...

My wife sent me half the taxes for selling our house in West San Jose. I'm currently waiting for County Chief Building Director to get back to me, after I speaks to one of the other gals that knows me. Hopefully they can get my permits back current without too much cash. Driveway was completed yesterday. I'm not sure if it was inspected or not.

I drove up the driveway in my CR-V. No problemo...I'm certain my Tundra will be no issue, either. My contractor and his son are working on the finishing touches.

I live as remote as you can in the Bay Area. 4 miles down a road from the freeway and 3 miles through a park to get to my house. My house is the first one you after getting off the freeway.
It takes some intestinal fortitude to live here. Landslides and trees down can block the road. A couple years ago during the Atmospheric Rivers, it was day to day using the road. My wife was staying at hotels or friends, a lot that month.

We are one of the first to lose power. Funny because the neighborhood had to sue to get power in the 90’s. They were off grid from the 70’s. It’s underground from 12 miles away. But the overhead wires fail 13 miles away.

Most of the neighbors think they can enforce petty unwritten rules like let us know when you are going to shoot. I shoot when I want. We all got 20A.

Now for the good parts- being 2 sides next to the park and another side to a water district, I have the most game on my land. Neighbor wants his brother to buy my place because he only gets pigs and coyotes. I have the deer and turkey.

Most would not do what it takes for my slice of heaven. But like any successful rancher, I have a wife that works in town. She wants to retire.

I want a place where if it was only one of us, either of us can handle it. That’s why I am developing my place up north.

Oh for the fishing side, I will be 20 miles from the disaster that is the Klamath. I knew that river in 1972. I don’t see it becoming any better in my lifetime because of what they did.

That's the type of place I would have loved to live for the past 30 years, but I didn't. My wife wanted to be in the city to raise the kids.

We lost power 2 nights ago, it just kicked my clock off, but my computer stayed powered. I use an Intel NUC for my desktop, running Linux.

That's perfect.

That's an XLNT area to be. I don't have it as good, but I can get deer fairly close, just have to shoot towards the volcano. Anywhere in the black forest is legal, as long as I don't shoot over the road, but it's pretty steep.

But that's the beauty of it, the fact that there's not a lot of people back there.

What did they do to the Klammath? That's a big river. What about the Smith River, can you fish there? Is there trout in the Smith?

Living remote like that takes guts, but the payoff is great!

I suspect both of us would be surprised to see where he lives. Aside from the Orick place, I suspect he's somewhere up along the skyline. Those areas are closer to the city than one thinks...
We kinda know Orick looks like this:

Maybe Woodside is a good pairing with that?

Yes, it is. But when you are getting older you want one or the other of you to be able to handle the place without the other. Hence my retirement place. A mile to the beach, a mile to the Redwoods. Developing it so my wife can handle without me, or I without her.

Whoa, bite your tongue. I can tell you, you don't want to be without each other. After 40 years, it's no fun for me.:(

I don't think I'm the type of person to be alone, but the women I see around me are not the types that I'm attracted to. I think I should stick with hunting.🤷‍♂️

You are a little south.
I am in between 2 reservoirs, surrounded be EBRP and SFwatershed property
I can see DT SF but don’t have to see Oakland because of hills

As far as up north, the Klamath took out 3 dams. Silt clouded up the rivers for months. Seals waited at the mouth of the Klamath and decimated the salmon who were confused.

My wife and are on a 50yr anniversary this year. We just took a 35 year break and been back together for 14.

There are some places in Oakland that are nice. My uncle (R.I.P.) had a house by Rockridge station, and it was very nice, Jerry Brown had a house on his block

I'd like to think that could happen to me and my wife, but I don't think it will happen. I just paid $300k in taxes, half of which she paid. I've never paid so much in taxes in my life, but I've never sold a home in West San Jose either... We're that much closer to being separated for good.

I know I'll have a nice place, and hope that she'll remodel her parent's house and have an ideal place for her as well.🤷‍♂️
