Welcome aboard
@Maxxy
I’m primarily a range squirrel and a bit of a history lover so I really appreciate older surplus rifles and anything "featureless" that still shoots straight. If you have any tips on local BLM land spots or just want to share your frustrations about the latest legislative issues, I’m here for it. Glad to be part of this community!
What ranges do you frequent?
There's a lot of BLM land up north, but the legislators seem to be trying to keep us off of it.
I'm primarily interested in hunting, but I do practice at the range, and recently bought a Ruger 10/22 to participate in competition at my local club. 10/22 is cheap to shoot, as well as buying. Me and 2 of my friends had a blast shooting this competition, one of my friend's girlfriend was spotting for us. She's actually a good shot, and could participate also, maybe she will next month. She also has a couple sons that would do good in this. I recommend 10/22 competition for any range squirrels. In fact, we all plan to continue attending to keep our POI up for hunting. My friends are shooting much bigger calipers than I am, using 300 RUM and 338 LM, and shooting elk at 800 yards. These guys have been hunting together for years. Their sons, their fathers, girlfriend, etc...one guy just bought a 338 LM, which is way more gun than I would hunt with, but he's going to elk at 800-1000 yards. Speaking for myself, I will put it like this...
If I shoot game at 500 yards, that would be the longest shot I've ever killed game at.
