I had a pretty routine encounter once, just checking my fishing license at a local pond. The warden was actually really friendly and ended up giving me tips on the best spots nearby. Anyone else experienced something like that?

A few years back, I was out trout fishing when a warden swung by to check my license. We ended up talking for about 20mins, just swapping stories about the stream conditions and what flies were working. He even directed me to this spot upstream that had bigger fish lurking. It turned out to be one of those unforgettable days that season!

Just a tip, always keep your license handy and accessible. Be friendly, and try not to act nervous if you're totally legal. Most wardens really appreciate it when you make their job smoother and show that you care about handling things the right way.

I'm was never a game warden, but was able to issue citations, using the fish and game codes. We had some private reservoirs in the city I patrolled in, and because of drownings (liabilities), we were called in to issue citations for the illegal fishermen. Most of the people we caught were very cool, and we were cool with them. We would just issue a warning, and shoo them away. However, if you ran, and we had to catch you, we would throw the book at you. No fishing license, trespassing, delaying an officer, mandatory arrests were in order.

Bottom line was have your license, be cool, and your outcome will be good.
