I've been doing some hunting up in NorCal and I'm thinking about upgrading my rifle for use on public land. Weight and accuracy are super important, especially when I’m tackling those long hikes and steep slopes. Does anyone out there have experience with lightweight bolt-action rifles or scout rifles that can handle the Sierra foothills?

You can’t go wrong with a Tikka T3x Lite in either 6.5 Creedmoor or .308 Winchester. I’ve hunted in some pretty similar terrain, and the Tikka has become my absolute favorite. It strikes the perfect balance of being light enough to haul around all day, even on those brutal uphill hikes, but still packs enough accuracy to make ethical shots well beyond 300 yds when you finally spot your game. It really just feels right in your hands.
