I’ve been discussing home defense options with some neighbors and I think a dependable pump shotgun would be a smart choice. I’m trying to stick to a budget of $900. Any everyday shotguns you’d suggest?

For home defense, consider a semi auto instead of a pump. YMMV, but in a stressful situation, the less you have to do, think about, the better. There is line of thought that the pumping action itself will be a deterrent, but I differ on that. If someone in already in your private/personal space, doing it 'terminator style' won't make a lick of difference.

Semi's will run you more than 900, but if you shop around you can get a really good one for 13-1400. PSA had a Beretta 1301 for around 1400 over the holidays.

My $0.02

Here is me thinking out loud. How about a Mossberg 500 with a 18 inch barrel. Install a Defender Tactical Mini pro lifter and cartridge arrestor system so you could run mini shells, 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells. Add a XS front sight. Should be less than $900

I don't have enough experience to tell you what type to get. I like the side-by-side 12 gauge, I don't think that's a Mossberg. Is the Mossberg the pump?
That looks like semi-auto, heh?

you still have the notorious CA 20% overhead ... :devilish::devilish::devilish:
Yeah, this is not playing out in our favor, as we get raped in the meantime. Newsom will be long gone while most of us will still be paying... and I keep saying I'm not buying anything else, but I haven't been charged that extra 11% when ordering online, I've just been delayed and required to upload my DL each time. OP, you should check on that Mossberg at Sportsman's, you might have to give your first born, to pick it up! We buy something for $100, and pay $120. We buy something for $500, and pay $600! We buy something for $1000 and pay $1200...for a right I was supposedly was born with.
