Whenever I travel to states that are a bit more relaxed about carrying, I always make sure to bring my gear along. I’ve also been training at home whenever I get the chance. I just picked up a CA-legal PCC, and I’m totally hooked! I decided to join this forum to meet fellow gun lovers, swap setups, and keep learning. Feels great to be part of this community!

We’re so happy you’re here! If you have any special knowledge or hobbies, we’d love to hear all about them. We’re always open to fresh ideas. Happy holidays to you!

Welcome to CSF, we're always glad to have all 2A friendly folks.

What type of sidearm are you using?
Thanks for the warm welcome! At the moment, I’m running a Glock 19 and it’s been incredibly reliable for me, and I’ve found it easy to get mags and holsters. I’m still in the learning phase and adjusting as I go, so I wanna know what others are using and their reasons behind it.

I'd like to get a shoulder holster to carry my sidearm when hunting.

I have hunted with a shoulder holster.
It depends on what it is.
If it is the main shooting weapon, you want it outside your coat. Like a TC contender
If it a kill shot weapon like a 9m. Inside your coat is fine.
But that crosses the line on concealed weapons in many states.
Oh , the irony of CA laws.

Yeah, we seem to get the worst of all worlds, heh?

I hadn't thought about that being considered a CCW violation...one more reason to get a CCW I 'spose...

I was thinking one of those shoulder holsters that let you draw from the left side armpit. Seems if I was to get attacked, I would be able to get to that if a bear was on me. I would just keep pulling the trigger until I was out of rounds, or mauled to death.

The main thing with a handgun is that you feel comfortable with it. As long as that is the case, it really doesn't matter, even if it's a 22LR. The G-19 is a 9mm. That will easily kill most game in CA. I wanted to get a G-29 (10mm), but it's impossible to get them in CA before the law is well understood, per Sportsman's Warehouse. 🤷‍♂️

I have had a CC for my safety at my job. I have had a CC to hunt. All in another state.
Unreasonable requirements and costs to get one here. And I had a NYS one. Who is tougher to get one?

That makes a lot of sense, especially for hunting. A shoulder rig seems much more comfortable when you’re layered up or carrying a pack, and it keeps the pistol handy without the struggle of a belt or chest strap. I haven’t tried it yet, but it’s definitely something I’m considering for those longer days outside.
