I will pin this to the top of the forum. For whatever reason, some folks don't feel comfortable these days giving their location on the Internet, and I completely get that part, so this is not trying to push anyone into doing something they're opposed to.

Not updating your location is one of the most common profile additions, not done on CSF.

I think it's good to remember that California is only about 900 miles long. In order for people to help you, it's helpful to know where you're located. Someone in SoCal is not likely to buy from Redding, or Lake County where I am. Shooting ranges are another example. I've been to a number of them, but certainly lacking in the SoCal area.

If you worry about people knowing where you are, please use a city in the vicinity of where you live.

And the last alternative, is just don't update your location, and in that case you're on your own.;)

I'm a mod on a plumbing forum. We continually ask where someone lives, because plumbing in India is way different than New York. Members are reluctant to tell us the truth, thinking we are being nosy, but we really don't care, but it sure helps in regards to plumbing.

I updated mine.
It reflects where I might me on a given week.
I do a 800 mile round trip every other weekend.
Google Maps can't find The Kommunist Republik.
Make sure your search is spelled correctly. Try adding a city, state, or zip code.
Try Google Search instead
Should this place be on Google Maps? :ROFLMAO:

The thing is, we need to respect people that don't want to put their exact location, and I do kinda know @Eastenerwesterner hangs out in NorCal some of the time.

At least I have always felt that should be optional for members. Some will, and some won't.

We can't help people, specific, if there's not a location, but OTOH, we can't protect their privacy if we mandate they put their location. And how do we know if the location is their real location or not, in most cases we don't know their name. Personally, I would prefer something as generic as NorCal/SoCal for people, or the zone they hunt in. Unfortunately the entire state is the Kommunist Republik, and we need to change that. 🗽

Well, SoCal can be anywhere from Santa Barbara to San Ysidro and all the way to the AZ border (I'm not even sure where the SoCal/Norcal line lies). If I were to post an ad or ask about nearby BLM areas to shoot (for example), I would be a bit more precise about my location.

I honestly don't know either, just that CA is a long state, the longest in the country.

I consider Santa Barbara to be SoCal also, and I consider the SF Bay area to be NorCal. I don't consider SLO to be NorCal.

You're welcome to post here either way, would just be helpful to others to know where you are in some cases, that's all. I'm also guessing that most of us are from California, but that is not cast in stone, some could be from other states. 🤷‍♂️

How about a general area .. or the county?
Yeah, that works! Could be Northern, Southern, Central, also.

I've lived in some of the bad areas of California, and some of the best as well. I'm actually more worried about how the state may be surveilling me and what they may be doing with my data. I'm sure they're using it against me, somehow...
