What would be our state firearm?

I'm currently working on a comparison project focused on how different states express their history and culture and I found out that some states actually choose guns to honor their heritage. This got me thinking about Cali, especially with its gold rush history, old west elements, and frontier days. If Cali were to take that approach, what would make sense? I'm asking from a historical perspective, not a political one

Oh boy, not sure I should get started on the Gold Rush, but it really screwed up California, if nowhere else. During the Gold Rush, a law was passed that said if you used water for >7 years, the rights to that water automatically belonged to you. Water is a huge deal in CA, as we've seen with the fires. And that is not to mention we need water to live, as humans.

I own property adjacent to Clear Lake, it was governed under Riparian Rights, long before it was incorporated into a state in 1850. Today, I am charged $3/year for the volume of a 2" pipe for 50 feet. Per CDFW, I must draw water at least 50' from shore as not to bother the Clear Lake Hitch, a fish only local to Clear Lake.

The reason CA did that with the water was that greedy people were mining for gold, by using water to blast the hills away, sifting it to find gold. I have been to most nooks and crannies in California. I was born here, and I will most likely die here, but that depends on how the state can turn around or not.

Considering the Winchester Mystery house is in San Jose. Widow of the son of the founder and eventual heir .
I have to say Winchester repeating rifle. .

Of course some might say their is no state gun because they want to ban them all

I've been there a couple times with the kids. A very unusual place, it has rooms going to nowhere, false staircases, etc...the widow seemed to have an abundance of money to spend on the house...evidently her husband made it all off the lever actions.

The house I just moved from was about 10 minutes from there.

Took my son and his other there once. Wife even paid for the backstage tour.
Strange place, strange woman that built it. Probably first nut cake in CA

And his father made those guns by buying an offshoot company of Wesson. Think Wesson worked for him for a while.

That said, I think our state firearm should be a Glock...just because. I don't own one, but for all the BS CA has caused over them, I think a Glock should be the state firearm. Better make it a 10mm, since the Grizzly is the state flag

LOL she must have been a nutcase, that was some strange place where doors opened to brick walls, and such...I really like that style of architecture, but much of it is useless, so it's odd.

Mrs. Winchester was just one of the megalomaniacs ahead of her time.

I think it's interesting in the fancy firearms, pistols specific, that were created and cherished by many....but there's a lot of grey area in regard to Criminals and how they were used, and how the movies create a scenario that may not be real. Movies have a way of doing that...;)

Went to my buddies place this afternoon. We shot 22LRs to 100 yards. I would say that both of us were seeing typical wide groups at 100, I can barley see a 12" plate with iron sites. Even with a scope, our groups looked like a shotgun blast. There was no rhyme or reason to why, it didn't see windy at all. I shot my buddies Browning semi-auto take down (had a Redfield scope), and a Henry lever action, that was a nice rifle. I sure like mechanical actions...I tried some of his copper plated hollow points, and they were a typical shotgun type group.

I am not a Glock person. The idea that Grusome has spent so much of our money fighting Glock shur has It's merits. I nominate a Glock 50 caliber in the vote. Go Big or go home. The Crook would never know Glock doesn't come in that flavor.
I'm a lever lover.
Heny not Hendry, came out with the first lever in 1860. The first two models were Rim Fire. Came out ten years after CA became a state.

I have a Henry 22 mag a silver boy smooth gun

Golden Boy.webp

This Golden Boy runs like it's dipped in hot butter. 22's can be so finicky. This runs shorts, longs, and long rifles of any flavor with zero malfunction. No Fires don't count, though I haven't had one in this. The downside is that my match pistols give a tighter group. The picture doesn't do it justice.

Indeed. I can get pretty good groups are the range, but at my friend's property, not so much. I attribute this to his property rolling down and up in the back, and/or the fact that we may not wait long enough for the dispersed air to settle down. We did have one or two no-fires a couple nights ago. I shot the same one later, and it fired, for both.

I was shooting a Henry the other night. They sure are smooth. Very nice guns. I like the Golden Boy like yours. Those are really sweet! I can hit 100 yards with iron sights, but that's about my limit. I can't hold it steady with iron sights at 200.
I love mine but I think in hindsight I should have got a 22lr . I would definitely shoot her more . They are beautiful rifles
I got a 22LR, mostly for one reason. I was told that it's actually the better round to have at 200 yards, opposed to 17 HMR and 22WMR. My friend is planning to shoot 17 HMR in the competition tomorrow, I plan to shoot 22LR.

The biggest reason for me getting 22LR is that most of the competitions use it, there are a couple that do not allow other rimfires, where the competition at 200 yards tomorrow allows any rimfire, but it has to be factory rimfire rounds.

I would think if you get used to one, you could get accurate of any cartridge. My friend that's planning to shoot 17 HMR has a slew of guns, and he normally shoots 300 RUM and 270WSM, but he's taking a 338LM to Idaho for elk this year. He's got a slew of other nice 22s. We were shooting a Browning 22LR takedown. Not light, but very nice. That was semi-auto, and then he had the Henry. It held 10 in the tube. The Browning had an add tube that pushed in from the butt stock, on the side of the stock. I know he has some old Remington bolt actions also...

Better than guns, he also has a Polaris 570 side by side. He also has a 1000, but the 570 is nicer, and has a winch. That would be sweet for dressing game in the field. Both have small flip beds to carry stuff, like game! ;) A side-by-side would be useful to buy for public land.

That could work for me. Although I was pondering, maybe the California state pistol should be the Sig that Shawn Ryan gave to Newsom last year, it has microstamping on it...after the fact of gifting it to Newsom (he has a friend at Sig), Shawn said Newsome wouldn't take it with him...due to flying into CA with a firearm. Yet, again, a weasel...

Update, took my grandson to the range this afternoon. We were shooting bucket ammo (my son in law bught me a few buckets of this for Xmas, lucky me) out of the Henry and BR 22, the Browning does ok with the cheap ammo. I put Norma Match in the Golden Boy, and I did a loose clover with 15 shots at 25 yards. Norma Match is what runs well in my 10 22 at 100 yards.

The only reason I remember 11 because I thought California it should 10 but I almost positive it’s 11 on my manual. Either way I only do 10
Oddly enough, I don't think the 10 round limit applies to 22LR.

Ruger sells mags that are 25 rounds for 22LR, and those can be shipped to California.

Non of the infamous AWB BS applies to 22LR, AFAIK. Thumbhole stocks, pistol grips, standard capacity mags, none of it applies, AFAIK.

I doubt the CA legislature would approve any "State gun". It would mean they recognize their usefulness...maybe a Nerf pistol?
Oh WAIT! More than 10 rounds...
I worked at a company, VA Linux Systems, they hold the IPO record on Wall street, believe it or not. During our monthly meeting, the CEO would be talking, and if we didn't like what he was saying, we're unload NERF rounds on him...At this place, we would have NERF wars in the evening, through the cubes. Some folks had some wild NERF guns...gattlin' style, full auto, etc...

FWIW, I think Santa Barbara is a great place, and have pondered how I could get there...but alas the companies I worked for are sparse in SB, and Ventura also, even SLO...but all the islands are great, I love the painted cave...the road that wraps up and around Cachuma...or the road that wraps up and around the hills above the Riviera...we have a Riviera in Lake County also. The Groves of trees throughout Montecito, I miss Butt's Buick...I used to go to some restuarant with a tree growing through the roof there, Longboards down on the pier, the Breakwater and Brofy Bros...Santa Barbara is a great place...the 2 places I would pick to live in CA are Monterey and SB.
