Top CCW permit classes in California for urban self-defense

Most CCW classes are very generic and offer minimal requirements to obtain a permit. The CCW class won't teach you how to shoot; that is assumed. I'd suggest training outside of the CCW class first. Look for a class that teaches shooting fundamentals, lots of fun, and very informative... perhaps two days minimum of training, four days is MUCH better. Then take the mandatory CCW class with confidence. Most importantly, learn how to shoot and definitely pursue your CCW permit. We live in questionable times. BE PREPARED!

They are two different things like huntinghuasna said. Get your CCW from Greg at firearms training, the fastest and easiest to get your hours for your CCW.

Then look up a training course, there are several. If you want the best you need to attend WOT in Florida. Phil the owner is a beast and will fly in the best shooters in the world to instruct. He now hosts the HK guys for their HK experience in the USA. It is pricey, but the training is amazing and one of the best for non LE or military guys.

It is realistic scenarios, be physically prepared to take a physical hit, run and gun, etc. You will do all sorts of drills, indoor/outdoor, on a bus, in an office, etc.

As others said. CCW Permit classes are separate from any other training.

Many other trainings as you describe are LEO focused as a pursuit and apprehend training. Not something a civilian would ever have occasion to utilize. Not that it wouldn't be a hoot to participate and learn.

Best civilian training would be situational awareness, cover, evade and as last resort defend. Sounds boring, I know. But your end goal should be survival of you and your loved ones.

The CCW live fire qualification in every county is different. In my county it is 16 rounds ALL on target, from a holster draw in 2 shot bursts within 5 seconds, from 4 different distances. So proficiency is important and requires reqular practice.

Also, I know several people who went through the CCW process only to decide at the end of the class that maybe concealed carry was more of a responsibility than they were ready for.

This is not to discourage you. But to prepare you for what lays ahead.

In the SF Bay Area I chose Bay Area Tactical Group (BAT) as my CCW class, and we went through a lot of scenarios both in class and at the range, before getting qualified.
